As I’ve talked about before in my articles about making money on Amazon, YouTube, and other sites, affiliate marketing is a great way to make quick money. As an affiliate, brands give you referral links to attach to the description of your pins. You get paid on the level of engagement your referral links create for the company.
Typically, this means that for every click and item bought, you get paid a commission from the company you’re partnered with.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money on Pinterest without the hassle of running your own site. Plus, it’s a fantastic opportunity to build a stream of semi-passive income.
To get started as an affiliate marketer on Pinterest:
- Sign up for an affiliate program with a company you like
- Use Canva to create a pin that works with the product
- Post the pin with your referral link in the description

Step One: Sign up for an Affiliate Program to get Affiliate Links
There are many online courses on affiliate marketing if you want to learn more about the process. They show you how to set up the foundational aspects of affiliate marketing that will enable you to be successful.
However, if you’re not ready to devote that much time to your affiliate marketing, we’ve put together a basic idea of how to get started:
- Make a list of products or services that your target audience needs
- Search to see if there are affiliate programs for those products and services
- Apply to the affiliate programs
- When and if you are approved, get the affiliate links for those programs and start putting them on Pinterest
Step Two: Create the Pin
After getting your affiliate link, the next step is to make the pin. Head to Canva (or another graphic design site) to create an image that goes along with the product. Be sure to click “blog graphic” so the dimensions will be good for Pinterest. Design an image and then download it onto your computer.
Step Three: Post the Pin with your Link
The final step in this process is to actually post the Pin. Since you have now both created and saved the pin, you can click the gray “Plus” on your Pinterest profile and upload it to your board.
Next, you’ll be prompted to upload your image, and choose a destination link. This is where the affiliate link goes.
After you upload your images, choose the boards you’d like to pin to, and save. Next, go view your pin and click “Edit” in the top left with the pencil. This is where you can change the description and add the referral link.
